  • Moving to Microsoft Office 365? Make the most of it.

    Blog Featured by Citrix

Stressed about the move to Office 365? You’re not alone. In fact, while Microsoft estimates that almost 90 percent of enterprises already own licenses, organizations across industries are finding that the deployment of cloud apps tests even the most adept IT teams—not to mention the hours of productivity it can consume for everyone.

But now, there’s an easy, effective way to make the migration simpler—a secure digital workspace such as Citrix Workspace. These powerful solutions not only help you complete migrations and software updates quickly and easily, they also improve security and increase productivity by simplifying access to the critical Office 365 apps that employees use every day.

    Faster migration and easier management

Managing a wide range of device types across multiple locations is a challenge for any IT team—and all the more so when you’re continually rolling out new software across the organization. Let’s be honest, having to manually configuring programs across each device is a time-consuming process that distracts IT from higher-value work.

With a secure digital workspace, you can federate identity management for people working outside the office by enabling single sign-on access to core applications. Every user can access the same cloud services from wherever they’re working and get a great experience, no matter what device and network they use.

    Better security

As everyone has realized, apps are potentially the weakest point in an organization’s security profile—especially if they are cloud-based, mobile or both. By using a secure digital workspace, you can deliver Office 365 and other SaaS apps securely and ensure the information residing in them is protected, no matter who on your team has access or where they use it.

Better yet, you can securely deliver these apps to the wide range of corporate and personal devices that your disparate employees and users are relying on every day.

    Increased workforce productivity

IT teams are keenly aware that the best solutions will fail without user adoption. No matter how secure and simple to manage a solution may be, it can only drive value if it’s adopted by your employees. That’s why a simple, streamlined user experience is crucial.

Fortunately, a secure digital workspace makes the user experience consistent across user devices. That means you can deploy Office 365 and any other app (mobile, virtual, SaaS, web) to users through a unified app store and they’ll get a consistent, secure experience, each and every time.

    Winners don’t wait.

As today’s businesses rapidly transform, IT is leading the charge into the digital age with innovative cloud-based solutions for overcoming their growing business challenges.

But one thing is becoming increasingly clear. Organizations that are hesitating on making cloud investments or continuing to survey the landscape before making a cloud commitment are risking more than competitive market share. They’re risking the loss of valuable personnel and ongoing business efficiencies as their IT infrastructures get stretched to accommodate disparate users and locations.

In fact, a recent Harvey Nash KPMG CIO survey revealed that most organizations have already made the move. More than 70 percent of respondents stated they were already making significant or moderate investments in the cloud. What’s driving these cloud investments? Here were the main responses:

71% – Improving the speed of IT service delivery

63% – Greater flexibility to react to changing market conditions

    58% – Enabling business continuity

57% – Improving customer support or services

51% – Lower total cost of ownership (TCO)

There’s more. Many of these organizations stated that by moving to a secure digital workspace, they have achieved significant, bottom-line business results in addition to the expected IT efficiencies. Take a look at these real-life examples:

A global chemical company with 5,000 employees across 33 research and manufacturing centers wanted their employees to be able to access the tools and info they needed across a wide range of devices and environments. By transitioning to a digital workspace, they were able to increase productivity, improve employee satisfaction (because they spent less time searching for what they needed), and deliver better IT visibility, security and control.

An addiction treatment center with five facilities across two states needed a way to ensure they could support 600 employees and 35,000 alumni with 24/7 care. Now, through their secure virtual workspace, employees get always-on connectivity—even from their homes—so they can deliver the care needed, when it’s needed most.

A retail footware manufacturer with 3,700 employees needed to connect designers in the Midwest, East Coast and China to accelerate product development and get shoes into market faster. Now, after the implementation of a virtual workspace, they’ve reduced their time to market from 425 days to just 140.

Of course, that’s just a few examples. Want to see more reasons why you should start your move to a virtual workspace today? Making the benefits of VDI even better for your organization

As more enterprises begin digital transformation efforts, including mobility, cloud, and big data analytics, the way in which desktops and applications are delivered and accessed is changing fast. Pay-per-use options like Microsoft Azure and other public clouds are becoming mainstream for infrastructure solutions that were once bought as expensive capex investments.

Through these more flexible consumption models, users can provision and consume services as needed rather than have to build and manage them, leaving the heavy lifting to cloud providers that take care of the architecture, maintenance and optimization.

VDI is one solution that organizations are adopting to better take advantage of digital transformation and support the ongoing changes in working patterns. And according to a recent study by IDC, the findings gave a clear indication of why this is becoming a popular choice for moving into the cloud.

To understand the value, IDC compared the experiences of more than 100 organizations that were running VDI workloads either in public clouds like Azure or in an on-premises environment. For those using the cloud, they benefited both from a cost perspective and in terms of user enablement.

On the cost side, moving VDI to the public cloud minimized expenditures on server-related infrastructure and ongoing infrastructure-related costs. In addition, IT teams benefited from not needing to maintain on-premises infrastructure, getting more reliable performance, and ease of delivering new features and applications. Also, through the cloud approach, machines that weren’t being utilized were not incurring costs until they were powered up again.

On the user enablement side, VDI recipients took advantage of improved reliability, faster delivery of new features, better access to applications, and improved performance, all of which helped to generate operational efficiencies and opportunities to capture additional revenue.

In total, IDC’s research shows that organizations that were running VDI in the public cloud could realize $2,015 in additional value per-user per-year. Here’s the breakdown of costs:

Area of Value Value per-user per-year
    Hardware cost savings $285
    IT staff time efficiencies $287
    Development team efficiencies $124
Higher user productivity, less downtime $111
Higher user productivity, faster to deliver new features $382
Higher user productivity, improved performance $194
Higher user productivity, increased user adoption $407
    Higher revenue* $225
Total value of public cloud per-user per-year $2,015

Source: IDC, 2018 (*IDC recognizes revenue by applying a 15% assumed operating margin against total revenue impact)

As shown, IDC’s research demonstrates that organizations can achieve substantial cost efficiencies in building out and supporting their VDI environments in the public cloud rather than with an on-premises infrastructure. On average, the organizations surveyed run VDI workloads at a 55% lower cost per-user per-year than on a legacy on-premises environment—a compelling savings for any size business.
