The worldwide impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) has created a new normal and we are adjusting to these changes right alongside you.  As a business, and as individuals, we want to assure you that we are taking responsible actions, to continue to do what is right for our customers and their families during these unprecedented times.

As the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) is extremely dynamic, AEC Group leadership is committed to taking an active role to help stop the spread of the virus, by closely monitoring and adhering to the guidelines released by local health organizations as well as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).  AEC Group wants to assure you that the health/safety of our employees, customers and partners is our primary focus.  We have implemented a work from home policy for all of our employees, while ensuring that they have secure access to all the systems as they work remotely.  We are confident that this policy will not have an impact on our ability to service our customers at the high level to which they have become accustomed.

For years organizations have developed and deployed disaster recovery and business continuity plans for their IT infrastructure. Many of these plans were developed with the focus on the rapid recovery of data center services in the event the core infrastructure was damaged or out of service due to natural disasters, malware outbreaks, localized issues such as power loss, fire, or water damage, or other unforeseen circumstances. The global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has introduced a different business continuity challenge. The global pandemic, and subsequent steps recommended by governments and health professionals, have impacted the workforce by physically separating them from the places they perform their jobs while the core infrastructure remains intact.  While many organizations have provided the ability for their standard remote workforce (Salespeople, branch offices, field teams) to remain operational, those deployments were often restricted to a subset of their overall user population. Extending the entire workspace functionality to all users hasn’t often been deployed as a standard practice.

AEC Group and its partners can help organizations who now find they require more advanced or broader capabilities enabled during the crisis. These services may include seamless office connectivity, application delivery outside of the traditional wired/wireless LAN, a comprehensive security posture for non-corporate assets that may be brought into the mix as employees are forced to work remotely, or team collaboration capabilities such as data access, voice, video, or chat. As native cloud delivered services have matured in the past few years it is now possible to deliver these services without the need for the extensive infrastructure upgrades that would be required in the past to support these on-prem deployments. In addition, these requirements may be short-lived until organizations can return to business as usual. This elasticity should include the ability to onboard the user population without committing to long-term financial obligations. Many of our partner organizations have taken steps to introduce different licensing models or time-limited services that can be adopted to address these challenges without the need for substantial long-term financial commitments.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July, 2019 – It is with great excitement that AEC Group would like to announce that effective July 1, 2019, AEC Group, Inc.’s Technology Solutions Division will be acquired by AEC Group, LLC (a WBENC certified organization).  The acquisition will afford the company the opportunity to increase their investment in new focus areas including a comprehensive managed services offering, as well as a growing security practice.  AEC Group, LLC will continue to operate under the same management team, sales team, engineering team, and back office team.

New majority owner Danielle Mizia will now serve as the President, overseeing operations.  “I am excited to work with such an amazing team.  I look forward to our opportunities for future growth and continued success.”

Making the benefits of VDI even better for your organization

As more enterprises begin digital transformation efforts, including mobility, cloud, and big data analytics, the way in which desktops and applications are delivered and accessed is changing fast. Pay-per-use options like Microsoft Azure and other public clouds are becoming mainstream for infrastructure solutions that were once bought as expensive capex investments.

Through these more flexible consumption models, users can provision and consume services as needed rather than have to build and manage them, leaving the heavy lifting to cloud providers that take care of the architecture, maintenance and optimization.

VDI is one solution that organizations are adopting to better take advantage of digital transformation and support the ongoing changes in working patterns. And according to a recent study by IDC, the findings gave a clear indication of why this is becoming a popular choice for moving into the cloud.

To understand the value, IDC compared the experiences of more than 100 organizations that were running VDI workloads either in public clouds like Azure or in an on-premises environment. For those using the cloud, they benefited both from a cost perspective and in terms of user enablement.

On the cost side, moving VDI to the public cloud minimized expenditures on server-related infrastructure and ongoing infrastructure-related costs. In addition, IT teams benefited from not needing to maintain on-premises infrastructure, getting more reliable performance, and ease of delivering new features and applications. Also, through the cloud approach, machines that weren’t being utilized were not incurring costs until they were powered up again.

On the user enablement side, VDI recipients took advantage of improved reliability, faster delivery of new features, better access to applications, and improved performance, all of which helped to generate operational efficiencies and opportunities to capture additional revenue.

In total, IDC’s research shows that organizations that were running VDI in the public cloud could realize $2,015 in additional value per-user per-year. Here’s the breakdown of costs:

As shown, IDC’s research demonstrates that organizations can achieve substantial cost efficiencies in building out and supporting their VDI environments in the public cloud rather than with an on-premises infrastructure. On average, the organizations surveyed run VDI workloads at a 55% lower cost per-user per-year than on a legacy on-premises environment—a compelling savings for any size business.
